UK unemployment has fallen to 2.59m this quarter

Official figures from the ONS have found that full time employment has risen by 102,006 and part time by 134,000. These figures are hopefully an early indication of some positive change in the job market for the UK.

It can be suggested that the Olympic and Paralympic games have been attributed to this decrease in unemployment figures and hopefully will extend into October, however according to Ian Brinkley, director of The Work Foundation, a large quantity of people leaving college and university, retirees and those on long term sick leave are returning to the job market, bringing an extra strain.
What remains to be seen is whether this fall in unemployment figures is a blip or a trend we will see continuing for the remainder of the year.
